Horror films are usually viewed by those who get an adrenaline rush from being scared. Horror genre covers many aspects. The horror genre can vary from being sinister to being very gruesome.


Types of horror films include:

The monster scare
Psychological thrillers
Slashers


Horror Codes and Conventions:

Spilt into sub-genres (hybrids)
Primary target audience - male 16-24
15 or 18 certificate
Extensive use of narrative enigma 
Slow pace editing, builds tension with long takes
Use of low key lighting and the use of CGI and FX
Clear binary opposition (Good Vs Evil)
Extensive use of close ups, point of view and low angle shots
