Typically the target audience of romance films are women. They are usually aged 12 to 15+. However some films target audience are 20 + this depends on the age of the protagonists and which target audience can relate to the film. The film covers or posters would determine the target audience as well as the title. For example the Dirty Dancing, the word ‘Dirty’ would appear the film to be inappropriate for younger viewers. The Cover or poster of the film could turn off some perspective viewers if they do not think it looks interesting or if it looks too sophisticated.

The actors within the film could possibly also determine the viewers and audience for the film, as if the audience know some of the actors, they may be more inclined to watch it. The age of the actors would also determine viewers as if the audience could relate.
