Certificate research: U (Universal)

Certificate research: U (Universal)

Image result for film classification uThe certificate ‘U’ means Universal, this means that the film being shown is suitable for all. A U film should be suitable for all ages above four years. However, when using this certificate, the producers find it impossible to predict what might upset any particular child.

U films are set within a positive framework, making everything shown on the screen to be positive and offer reassuring counterbalances to any violence.

The U would attract younger audiences as it shows that it is suitable, therefore family friendly. Therefore creating a target audience of younger viewers and their families. The certificate would enhance the success of the film due to it being a low rating therefore more people are likely to attend as they know there will not be any disturbing images.

A films that are examples of this would be Toy Story, Inside Out and Brother Bear. These would be rated U’s due to their counterbalance of violence and the story being shown in a positive light.
